Why HII?

The ACR formed the ACR Head Injury Institute (HII) to use its unique skills in the areas of imaging (management, transfer, archiving), education, research and development of appropriateness criteria and guidelines and standards, to help advance the diagnosis, understanding and treatment of head injuries.

One of the greatest needs in the advancement of head injury medicine is the identification and development of biomarkers that help identify the nature and severity of a head injury. This challenge is very complex and cannot be solved by excellent researchers and practitioners working in silos, but rather by bringing to bear the best efforts of the entire field of radiology and other medical specialties.

The leadership required for this kind of challenge is tailor-made for an organization with a long history of education and innovation. The HII brings a broad and deep range of capabilities and relationships to this challenge.

Dr. Alexander Norbash, HII Chair, discusses the Head Injury Institute.
The ACR formed the HII to use its unique skills to help advance the diagnosis, understanding and treatment of head injuries.
